From Bodily Knowledge to Intuitive Movement ~ Live Webinar Series

Why am I presenting this course?

Movement has increasingly become associated with alignment, particular shapes, strength, flexibility, and the appearance of doing it “right.” These qualities can have value, but they can also obscure something more fundamental: each person’s capacity to feel, understand, and ultimately have authority over their own movement.

I wrote From Bodily Knowledge to Intuitive Movement to explore movement from the inside out—through walking, yoga asana, pain science, sensation, and the individuality of each person’s body and life. This course gives us the opportunity to take that exploration beyond the page: to slow down, question together, and develop the confidence and sensory awareness that allow movement to become increasingly personal, responsive, and intuitive.

Who is it for?

Physical therapists, yoga therapists, yoga teachers, movement professionals, and other healthcare practitioners interested in whole-person approaches to movement, pain, sensation, and self-trust. The course is also appropriate for thoughtful movement students interested in exploring these concepts through their own experience.

Why register?

The book provides the framework; the live course lets us investigate it together. Each session will take one chapter into deeper conversation, connecting clinical ideas with lived experience and offering opportunities to question, reflect, and apply the material to both personal movement and work with patients, clients, and students.

“I studied yoga therapy in the early beginnings of the Loyola Marymount Yoga Therapy program over 15 years ago. Sherry was our anatomy teacher and I immedietly connected to the way she shared her exceptional knowledge and understanding of human anatomy and movement. After the 2 year program, I chose to do an internship with Sherry at her studio, and that’s where I I learned the most about teaching yoga and ’seeing bodies.’
Since then, I keep going back to her classes and courses. Besides having her extensive PT experience, her specialization in feet and gait and her yoga therapy experience, what draws me in is her intuitive connecting of these elements and deconstructing poses to teach the basic components of a pose and rebuild poses through many doors. In this way she truly sees her students. Her eagle eyes don’t miss much even on zoom classes! She thoughtfully listens to how we are feeling as we enter her safe space, and as we move through class as she carefully instructs, constructs, deconstructs and modifies poses and sequences as needed for her students. In every class she meets each one of us where we are on the day of class. It is NEVER a one size fits all class. She safely challenges us to inquire within and to work hard toward our edges.
I go to Sherry because I learn so much from her about yoga, breath, pain, movement patterns, habits and attitude as well as self awareness and self discovery. I don’t want to follow a teacher blindly. I wan’t to learn the ins and outs of how my body works so I can take responsabiliy for my own inevitable issues and she has taught me to have the confidence to do that.
Last but not least I simply feel great after class, energized when I feel low energy, relaxed when I feel stressed, healed when in pain.
Every teacher needs a mentor to gently and kindly guide them to become a better teacher.
For me, that is Sherry. ”
